The Sponstayneous Story
When COVID hit, AirGnZ was living in a 700 square foot apartment in downtown Washington, D.C.
The newly married couple both had demanding jobs and needed more space — you can only take so many Zoom calls from your bathroom before people start thinking you're weird.
Rather than rent a larger space, Zach and Gabby (the "G" and "Z" behind AirGnZ) decided to Airbnb hop for as long as they could — they wound up being on the road for 15 months.
Along the way, they stumbled upon incredible deals on Airbnb.
Soon they realized that if you waited to book until the last minute, or if they were willing to be flexible with their dates, they could save significantly on their nightly rate.
The couple began sharing these finds with some friends and family…before long randos were asking to get included on the text/email chain.
So, the couple decided to start a newsletter focused on bringing a weekly curation of the best last-minute deals and upcoming steals on Airbnb.
They threw together a Webflow landing page and within 24 hours Sam Parr from The Hustle (which sold to HubSpot) had seen it and shared it on his Twitter.
About a month later, he and Shaan talked about Sponstayneous on the My First Million podcast…they shit on the name (haha)...but both traffic and subscribers blew up after their mentions.
Today, Sponstayneous strives to be the Scott's Cheap Flights (or Jack's Flight Club for our fans in Europe) for Airbnbs.
